"Begin today and write in it your goings and comings, your deepest thoughts, your achievements and your failures, your associations and your triumphs, your impressions and your testimonies. I promise you that if you will keep your journals and records, they will indeed be a source of great inspiration to you, each other, your children, your grand-children and others throughout the generations. Remember, the Savior chastised those who failed to record important events." --President Spencer W. Kimball

Friends

I saw a saying on facebook the other day, and it went like this:

"Be very careful with whom you chose to open up to......only a few actually care, and the rest are just being nosey and curious"

Sadly, this quote is very true....and I've had the unfortunate opportunity to experience more than once, opening up to someone who really was just nosey and didn't care at all....that hurt, and bad.  I have, on the other hand, met and made some really good friends, who no matter if we don't see each other everyday, or talk everyday, or keep in touch as often as we would like, we pick up right where we left off when we get together and we do sincerely care about each other.  Everyone needs friends like that.

I met Mel almost 8 years ago.  We were both at an interview, trying to get a position with SkyWest.  I remember she had a red and black shirt on and a fake hair piece that had ringlet curls.....to be honest, I thought she was a mexican fob (cause who wears fake hair??!!) LOL (we joke about it now) We didn't really talk much at the interviews....we were both just focused on getting the job.  Then we both made it to the second interview....and we both got the news we were hired.  Yay!  We started training together and that's where I learned that she's actually not a mexican fob, but a very nice, very sweet girl.  She's not shy at all...in fact she is very outgoing and she makes friends really easily.  She came and talked to me and we hit it off pretty quick.  We'd soon become Skywest buddies....hanging out at work, and sometimes outside of work, we'd talk all about my family....and about hers, we just became really good friends.  People at work would always get us confused....they would call her Mon, and call me Mel....we don't look anything alike, but we were just always together.

We worked together for years and then she got pregnant.  She had her handsome little Jett....I got to babysit him a couple times while she was working....my boys loved him!  But she didn't have very much family here....and it was getting too hard for her to find babysitters for her little guy, so she decided to take the furlough that was offered and move to be by her parents.   That was 3 years ago.  We still kept in touch over the years, through facebook or text......and just the other week she was in town for something and she called me to meet her for lunch.  As soon as we got there we just picked up right where we left off......

When she left, her son was still a baby....only a few months old....now he's 3, so big, so handsome, so smart!  When she left, I only had Makai and Mone.....now I have Tala and Katea.  Lots of things have changed!

We met at Chick-Fil-A....we wanted a place that had a playplace so our kids could be occupied while we sat and talked.  It turned out perfect!  Makai remembered Jett as the baby we watched a long time ago.....we put him in the stroller and went for a walk around the block, and it started raining.....we literally ran home because I didn't want little Jett to get sick, and because Makai thought Mel was going to be mad at me.  LOL.  Mone was too young to remember, and Jett...of course...was only a baby.  You would have never known though, that they didn't really know each other....they just started playing together as if they did, and they all got along so well...no fighting...no tattle telling....just playing and having fun.

Mel and I got to chat and catch up on the 3 years we hadn't seen each other......and it was such a great time!  We planned now, to go out to Houston to visit her...and for her and Jett to come back to Utah more often to visit us!  It's good to have good friends!  :)

Oh, and a couple times in our conversation, we had to just stop an laugh because of things our kids would say....here's one:

Jett came running out of the playplace and said with a very concerned voice "Mom, somebody in there just called me adorable"  Mel said "Well that's because you are adorable"  Jett said in an irritated voice "No I'm not"  Mel then explains to him that adorable means cute...and he says "oh, I am adorable".....LOL....too funny!
