Safi&Fale

They're married!!
Mr Asafi & Kaufale Veasisi
1/25/2013

For having less than a month to plan a wedding, everything turned out so nice!  I was so happy that we all pulled together as a family and made this day super special for our brother!  Everything from the decorations to the entertainment to the food was done by our family (minus the front table) and everything was so nice!  I'm glad they got the wedding they deserved!  Here's to a lifetime of love and happiness for both of you!
One with the parents
 With the nieces and nephews...
With the siblings...

Our kids put together the entertainment, I wish I would have taken more pictures, but they all did a great job performing for their Uncle Safi!

I thought this was the cutest picture.....Tala girl giving Folau uma's on the head :)
And one with Uncle Daniel :)

Fale's bridal shower

Safi is my first cousin, but we consider him our brother.  He's my Dad's only sister's son and he's been living with my parents for the past few years.  He's the joker kind that always has something sarcastic to say, and he's the uncle that all the kids are scared of because he's always scaring them or teasing them or tickling them, and he's really rough about it.  LOL  He has a very rough and harsh sense of humor, and most of the older grandkids have finally gotten used to it, but my little Tala is still scared of him LOL.  He still acts like a little kid himself, so when I found out on Christmas that he was getting married, I was completely shocked!  I didn't even know he liked girls, let alone that he has had a girlfriend for almost a whole year!  LOL.

We found out on Christmas that he was getting married and everything after that happened so quickly.  The wedding was set for January, that was less than a month away.

My Aunty Denise wanted to put together a little bridal shower for Fale....her family wasn't planning on throwing her one, but we didn't want her not to have one, so everyone met at Leslie's house to plan it out (I conference called because I had to work) we weren't planning anything big, just a little something to show Fale that we loved our brother and that we were excited to welcome her into our family.  Fale is from my parent's ward, so the shower would just be us and the ward...and of course we invited her family to come too!

Anything Denise does is amazing!  She's so crafty and creative and she had the place decorated so beautifully.  Safi and Fale chose Red/Black/White for their colors......really they just chose red because that is their favorite color, but we decided to incorporated black and white so they could have a whole color scheme.  The shower was beautiful and a lot of people came.  It was just simple, held in the gym of my parent's ward....we just had finger foods and some desserts and we did it more like and open house...no games, just mingling and visiting and then she opened her presents.  I don't know Fale very well at all.  The first time I met her was at my parents house on Christmas when they told me they were getting married.  She's a very quiet girl, but I'm happy that she's marrying my brother Safi.  Hopefully she'll be just what he needs to calm down and settle down.  And hopefully she knows that we love and welcome her to our family!  :)

So my parents have sent 3 kids on a mission (me, Misi, Misipou) and married off 6 of us (Leslie, me, Marie, Misi, Fanga & Safi)....we're just waiting on Leka to find her Mr. Right and then my parents will be kid free LOL

Dad's letter

When I was serving as a missionary in the Chile, Santiago West mission, I only got one single letter from my Dad the entire time I was out there.  Only one.  It is my most favorite letter I have ever received!!  I love it so much because it's totally my dad.  He wrote it himself, without any help.  He wrote it exactly how he speaks, and I read it with his voice in my mind exactly as if he was talking right to me.  I love my Dad so much!  He's not a man of many words (well, he used to not be..... but being a stake president has helped that a lot!) ......and he never liked to write because he was always unsure of how to spell things.  I remember when we were young, he used to always ask us kids to help him spell check his work, or he would just have us write it for him.  This one single letter that I received from him meant the world to me, and I will always cherish it!  Always a daddy's girl!

90 years old

When Ova and I got married, 10 years ago, one of the first big celebrations we went to with his whole Fangupo family was Ma's 80th birthday party.  They went all out with dinner, decorations, talents, a slideshow.  It was a big deal!  I can't even believe that it's been 10 years......time is flying right by!

Ma turned 90 years old this year, on January 9th.  90 YEARS OLD!!!  Not everyone makes it to that age, and there were several times that we, ourselves didn't know if she would make it....but she's so strong and here she is, 90 years old!!  Her body is aging and she isn't able to get around as easily as she used to or wants to, but her mind is sharp and she still remembers everyone and everything.  She remembers little details about events that have happened in her life and she loves to share them. I wish so bad that I could understand every word that came out of her mouth, and that she could understand me.....but honestly, without being able to understand each other, we totally understand each other!  I love Ma so much, and I know she loves me!  In fact, I think she loved me even before Ova did....before we even started dating.  She's always been so kind and nice and sweet and welcoming and I honestly can't say enough about this very special and amazing woman!

When Ova and I were still dating, he told me that Ma and Tea were his responsibility and that I needed to be aware that at some point they would live with us and we would take care of them.  We only spent the first year of our marriage alone, and then they moved in with us.  I have been so blessed to have lived with Ma for the last 10 years.  She knows me, she accepts me with all my imperfections, she loves me and she loves my children!

I've learned a lot about her in the 10 years we've lived together!  She's a woman of great faith and she has read her scriptures, or church literature all the time.....over and over and over again and can tell you any story from the bible or the book of mormon, in great detail.  She's limited to what she can do right now physically, because of her age, but she continues to strengthen her mind by reading and learning and sharing her knowledge.  Ova is a scripture buff as well.  He loves the scriptures and I have no doubt that he gets that love and passion for the scriptures from her.  I am blessed because of it!

We wanted to do something really special and nice for her for her 90th birthday so we all met as a family and threw ideas in on what we could do.  We finally decided that the best idea would be to do exactly what she would want.  Her life revolves around her family....her kids, grandkids and great grandkids....and her ward, so we decided to throw a birthday party for her and invite all those people!  We reserved the gym of a church building, planned on doing finger foods for the guests and a front table for Ma and her honorary guests.  We were going to make it fun so Jr brought his DJ equipment so we could dance.....each family was in charge of preparing a talent or a tribute to Ma....and we were just going to spend time with her and celebrate her life!  It turned out perfect, so much better than we had even planned!  That whole gym was packed.....you could definitely tell how loved she is by the amounts of people who came to celebrate!  Everyone had so much fun, but most importantly Ma had fun!  She was laughing and smiling and clapping almost all night long!  I don't know how much longer she'll be with us....my guess would be at least a few more years!  But I'm so glad to have her in my life.  She's such a special woman and I love her so much.  Happy Happy 90th Birthday Ma!!!  Thank you for everything!

Should have taken a picture of her before her party....this was when all was said and done and she was exhausted!  :)

Tea and baby Tea preparing the Lu for the front table

Tala girl did a tauolunga, that was the first time she ever got in front of a crowd and actually did it, willingly!  I was SO SO SO proud of her, and Ma was loving it!

Tahitian number by her great grand-daughters

WE LOVE YOU MA!!  HAPPY 90TH!!!

Uncle Po

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6

It's really amazing how much faith and trusting in the Lord can do.  I've got to give a lot of credit to my in-laws for their continued faith and endurance.  Never giving up on their children regardless of the decisions they have made.  Letting them choose, sometimes the wrong path.....watching them fall flat on their faces and still being there to help them up when they were ready.  That had to have been so hard for them....so heartbreaking for them....but they always kept the faith in the Lord, and in their children, and now that their children are older and grown we are all able to see the benefits, rewards and blessings of their faithfulness.

I blogged a while back about Sau....the choices he made, the consequences he paid....and how far he had come.  I said that he is a true life realization of the scripture in Proverbs.....his parents taught him well, allowed him his free agency, watched him struggle and fall.....and watched him change and come back to the church.  I had never been so proud of anyone before in my life.  Now I can add Po to that list.  :)

Po is Ova's youngest brother.....the baby of 7 kids.  He's not a man of many words....a very reserved person, quiet, and he pretty much just goes with the flow.  He doesn't talk very much, at least to us sister-in-laws......but all the kids absolutely love and adore him.  He's definitely the favorite uncle.  Po's been doing his own thing for the past several years.  He moved to Vegas to play rugby with the BlackJacks and he just did his own thing out there.  He was taught when he was young right and wrong, but he was never really close to the church....at least since I've known him.  He was trying things and doing things he shouldn't have been doing.......but his parents never gave up on him.   When he came back home for baby Katea's 1st birthday party and he told us that he wanted to move back to Utah and work on going on a mission, we were all so excited for him.

We are lucky enough to have him staying with us as he prepares for his mission.  We get to see the transformation happen right before our eyes.  He started asking a lot of questions, and having scripture study sessions with Ova.  He would read his scriptures and say his prayers....he would go to church and you could just see the light inside him get brighter and brighter.  After a little while, he got his priesthood.  He worked with the bishop and did everything he needed to do to prepare to serve the Lord.  And finally he handed his papers in.  There was a little hiccup when submitting them and they actually got sent back.  The church just needed a little more explanation on some of the charges he had on his record from his younger years......you'd think that would have deterred him from wanting to go....but no roadblock was going to stop him.  He knew what he wanted.  He knew what he needed to do, and he was determined.  He got everything cleared up and re-submitted his papers and on January 9th, 2013 he received his call!

We all met at Jr and Tina's house to watch him open his call.  The whole house was packed....you wouldn't even believe it.  From one end of the house to the other, it was full.  We had the Frisco family on Skype on the tablet, Kiki and her boys were on Skype on the laptop.....TiTonga and Meti were facetiming so they could be there too even though they were at work and far away.  Thank goodness for modern technology that lets us be present for things like this without actually being present!  :)

Alice conducted and she went around the room and had people guess where he was going to go.  People were guessing all kinds of different places, but Ova and I thought he'd go Spanish speaking.  When the time came for him to open it, it was dead silent......he started reading his letter and then he said "I've been called to Planet Mars"......he's a bit of a jokester and we all had a good laugh for a minute and then he kept reading.  Dear Elder Fangupo, you have hereby been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you have been assigned to labor in the.......................................
Mexico, Chihuahua Mission
You will report to the MTC in Provo, Utah on May 1st, 2013

Everyone in the room was screaming and cheering....Po had the biggest smile on his face and his mom was crying.  What a special moment for our whole family!  We all sat around after just eating and talking and celebrating......Po was glowing.  He was so happy.  We were all so happy for him.  He is the lost sheep that came back to the fold, another real life realization of the scripture in Proverbs. A changed man.

Po makes the 5th one in the family to go on his mission.....and they all went foreign.  Jr served in Guam, Alice served in New Zealand, Ova served in Nicaragua, Tim served in Guatemala and now Po is going to serve in Mexico....what a blessing!

I know Po is going to be an awesome missionary.  I know how much this means to him and how much he wants this.  I've seen him change....he's going to leave on his mission with a clean heart and clean hands.  He's 25 years old.  It's never too late!  He's going to be an awesome missionary because he's been there and done that and he can teach from experience.  Those are the most powerful missionaries, when they can relate and share personal conversion experiences.

CONGRATULATIONS Po......I am so proud of you!  Keep working hard, keep asking questions and learning.  Keep increasing your faith and knowledge....you are going to be one powerful missionary and I can't wait until you're out there in the field and we can write letters in Spanish to each other.  Thank you so much for being such a great example to my boys.  They look up to you so much!  We love you Uncle Po!

My Tala girl is 3!!!

My little princess is 3 years old!  I can't believe it's been 3 years since she was born....time is flying by!  She's so super smart for her age.....like really really smart!  People don't realize that until today she was only 2 years old, because she talks and acts like a teenager already LOL.  She can carry on full on conversations with adults and she has a very sarcastic and bossy personality.  She sure is one of a kind and we sure do love her!

Let me give you an example of her little personality.......we were all sitting around the living room the other night.....Mone and Makai were taking a shower......Ova and I were watching tv.....baby Katea was crawling around and Tala was playing on her tablet.  Mone comes out of the shower and starts playing with my wallet.....that's one of my biggest pet peeves because he takes everything out and not everything gets put back in, so when I'm at the store and I really need my card or a coupon or something I can't ever find it.  So I start yelling at Mone to quit touching my wallet.  After I get everything picked up and put back where they go, and Mone puts his pajama's on, I tell him to go get the pick so I can comb his hair..........keep in mind that Tala is on the other side of the living room playing on her tablet, not having anything to do with us.  All the sudden, without even looking up or stopping what she's doing, she says "Mom, you should comb Mone's hair really really hard because he touched your wallet"......it totally caught me and Ova off guard and we both started laughing.  She's such a little kafi LOL

Anyways.....she turned 3 today on January 8th, 2013!!!

This is my long weekend at work, so we didn't get to do anything really big for her birthday, but we got her a cake and some treats and we ordered pizza for dinner and Gramma Tea bought her a gift.....so we had a quick little celebration before I left.

Her Red Velvet Birthday Cake was so delicious!

My little princess....3 years old!

Smiling with her mouth full of pizza

Gramma Tea bought her some pretty princess shoes...she thought she was so cool!

Sad to say that we've never had an actual birthday party for our oldest princess.....it's not because we haven't wanted to, it's just because things keep coming up :(  When she turned 1, we were in Hawaii for Uncle Ula's funeral.  When she turned 2, it was crazy because baby Katea was in the hospital..........so I'm going to throw her the Princess Birthday party that she's been asking me for forever.  It probably won't be until next month, but she will get her birthday party.....that's a promise....better late than never!

I love you so much Lautala.....you're so beautiful and smart and you bring so much happiness into our home and family!

HAPPY HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY!!!

Tala:  No, dad's not pretty, he's handsome

Me: Oh, are you pretty like Makai and Mone?

Tala:  No mom, they're handsome like dad

Me:  Oh, are you pretty like baby Katea?

Tala: No (with an annoyed face/tone of voice)

Me:  Well, who are you pretty like?

Tala:  I'm pretty like MeleLangi

Me:  But what about baby Katea?

Tala:  No, she's not pretty like me and MeleLangi, she's pretty like you....

Hahahaha the crazy conversations I have with this girl sometimes!

Early Intervention 2013

Early Intervention still comes twice a month to work with baby Katea.  Melinda is the name of our therapist and she's great!  She sat down with us when she first came and set some goals that we wanted baby Katea to reach within the next 9 months.  Her goals were things like hold her head up at a 90 degree angle, turn her head from side to side while laying on her stomach, reaching for toys, rolling over from front to back and back to front, sitting unassisted, pushing her upper body off the floor with her arms. The simple milestones that most babies reach on their own were put into goals that we had to work on with our little miracle.  She came and set these goals with us when baby Katea first got released from the hospital....that was back in February 2012, and we were SO SO SO happy and proud to see that she passed off every single goal we had set for her....and more!  :)

Melinda always gets on the floor and plays with her

At our last EI appointment, Melinda marked off all the goals as completed (there were 9 total) and we set some new goals that we would like to see her reach within the next 9 months.  The goals we set this time were things like start to crawl, start to mimick sounds and actions, go from sitting to crawling and visa versa from both the left and right, recognize that da-da is Ova and ma-ma is me, pull herself up to stand, start to walk, eat more solids, gain weight, etc.  That sounds like a whole lot of goals to set for her, but just within a month and a little of actually setting them, she's already completeing them!

She's been rolling herself around the room for a while, and then that turned into army crawling.  Just a few days ago she lifted herself up on her knees and started crawling on all fours.  She was a little wobbly at first and she'd lose her balance and fall on her stomach, but within a weeks time she's a pro and she is all over the place all the time....it's actually hard to keep up with her LOL :)  She talks a lot and says a lot of different sounds....and we're trying to see if she associates the sounds with anything, and for now we think they're just sounds.  In the morning when she's awake she'll slap Ova and say dada over and over again, but that's really the only time she calls him that.  We've been working on making sure that whenever she's with Ova we say da-da and with me ma-ma, so she'll catch on soon enough!  For now, we're so proud of all the different sounds she's making!  She can go from sitting to crawling from both sides and from crawling to sitting too.  And just recently, within the past couple days she started pulling herself up to stand.  I almost cried the first time she did it, I was so proud!  :)  I was sitting on the couch and she was crawling all over the place, and she crawled over to me and pulled herself up.  I, of course, celebrated a little loudly so she got excited and ended up falling down....but that was the first time she'd ever done that and she continued to do it all day long.  Now she pulls herself up on anything that she can.  She even stands up holding on with only one hand....she hasn't talken any steps yet, but with the amazing progress she's been making, I'm sure that will happen in no time!  :)  Super proud mama!

One thing that she has been struggling with is her weight.  You can kind of see how skinny she is in the picutres above, but she's really skinny!  She still fits into size 6-9 month clothing and she's almost 16 months old.  Melinda asked us a bunch of questions about what she eats during the day so she could calculate how many calories she is actually taking in....and then she was going to figure out how much she should be eating to maintain her weight and how many she needs to be eating to gain weight.  I really don't know what's going on with her, she just is never hungry and she doesn't care to eat.  She usually only cries for a bottle when she's tired.  She'll put stuff in her mouth and chew it up and spit it out, and if I give her baby food or mashed up food, she'll only take a couple bites and then clinch her mouth shut really tight and turn her head away indicating to me that she doesn't want any more.  I've tried changing the food up and trying different flavors to see if I could find something she likes, and haven't been successful.  When she was on the Neosure, she was a chubby baby....but now she's just so boney.  I took her to get her first synagis shot in the beginning of December and she weighed 18.5 lbs.....when I took her in for her second synagis shot of the season at the beginning of January, she'd lost a few ounces.  Not good.  Melinda put all the information together and she told us that baby Katea needs to be eating at least 900 calories per day to maintain weight....so she'd need to eat more than that for her to gain.  Adding up what she eats on a daily basis, it only equals 620 calories...give or take.  No wonder she's losing weight.  I was at a standstill because I don't know what she needs or wants...she just has no interest in eating.  She's a happy baby, and she's meeting her milestones that we're setting for her....she's just not eating as much as she should.  She's probably the first Fangupo ever that doesn't like to eat LOL.  Melinda suggested that I schedule an appointment with my pediatrician to see what other methods we can try....and she also referred us to the feeding clinic.  That was our next step.

I called the Feeding clinic to set up an appointment, but they only hold classes on random occasions and there's a waiting list to be seen.  I put her name on there and was told I would get a call when they schedule another class, which she thought would be sometime in March or April :(

I took her in to see Dr. Templeman and he prescribed her pediasure.  It's like a milkshake you can buy at any food store and it's clinically proven to help weight gain.  I went straight to the store and bought some and we've been mixing 4oz. of whole milk and 4oz. of pediasure with every single bottle.  We just started this so we haven't really noticed any difference yet, but hopefully soon we'll start to see her fatten up!  :)  And of course, we're still trying to feed her solids!  We found out that she LOVES apples....but not applesauce....and she doesn't like the apples cut up.  She likes us to give her the whole apple and she will nibble on it.  She somehow bites the apple and eats all the meat off the skin and she spits the skin out.  LOL.  She was goin to town on an apple the other day and when she was done, we picked her up and there were apple skins all over the place. LOL

Well my little miracle, I love you and I'm so proud of you!  Please eat....food is GOOD!!
